The partnership comes at an important inflection point: small businesses are working with too many tools and are looking to increase efficiency wherever they can to avoid making costly mistakes.

Founded in 2010, When I Work was initially focused on building workforce management tools for shift workers, and their small business employers. But it’s grown considerably since then, now serving more than 200,000 employers and over 1 million employees every month.

When I Work is the source of truth for their customers' time and attendance tracking. Employees use it to clock in and clock out at every shift. However, customers reported errors and clunkiness when exporting or syncing this timesheet data to external payroll providers, so When I Work tapped Check to power its newly launched embedded payroll offering. ​​
