Today, we're announcing a new partnership with Basic Capital, a modern 401(k) platform built for how growing companies actually operate. Through this integration, Check partners can offer their customers a 401(k) designed around open investment choice and automated compliance.

A 401(k) that keeps up with the business, not the other way around

Basic Capital was purpose-built for growing companies, not retrofitted from decades-old retirement infrastructure. Plans are designed to flex as a company scales, starting with a Safe Harbor structure that keeps compliance simple and expanding into more advanced plan types as needs change.

Employees get real investment choice with thousands of funds instead of a handful of pre-set options, and compliance runs in the background instead of showing up as a year-end scramble. Plus, Basic Capital comes with an AI assistant that lets employers ask questions about their plan and workforce instead of digging through spreadsheets.

The result is a 401(k) that feels like the rest of a modern software stack: quick to set up, easy to administer, and built to keep up as a company grows.

"Payroll and retirement savings go hand-in-hand. If the data doesn't flow automatically, employers end up doing the work by hand," said Abdul Al-Asaad, CEO of Basic Capital. "Partnering with Check lets us bring a modern 401(k) directly into the platforms companies already use to run payroll, so more employees end up with a plan that's actually built around them."

What it means for Check partners

For Check partners, adding Basic Capital means having a modern option that they can point customers to, particularly for companies that have scaled past what a bolted-on legacy 401(k) provider can support. Contributions, deductions, and employee data sync automatically with payroll, so offering Basic Capital doesn't add new operational overhead for partners or their customers on top of that.

"Just like payroll, 401(k) shouldn't be stuck in legacy systems," said Ian Zapolsky, Chief Growth Officer of Check. "Basic Capital was built to make it easy on people trying to save: real investment choice and compliance that runs itself on a platform employees will actually want to use. We're proud to add them to Check's retirement lineup."
