Check Partners with Clair to Add Earned Wage Access Integration

min read
Today, we're announcing our partnership with Clair, a leading embedded Earned Wage Access (EWA) provider. Through this integration, Check partners will have the option to offer their customers’ employees access to earned wages before payday, all without leaving the payroll experience they've already built on Check.
Meeting employees where they are
For millions of workers, especially hourly, shift-based, and gig workers, the gap between when wages are earned and when they're paid can create real financial stress. Unexpected expenses don't wait for payday. Earned wage access gives employees flexibility in when they receive their pay.
At the same time, employers and software platforms are increasingly being asked to offer the kinds of financial wellness benefits that attract and retain talent. Earned wage access has moved from a nice-to-have to a meaningful differentiator, and the payroll product is the natural home for it.
How the integration works
Through Check's partnership with Clair, our partners can enable EWA as part of their payroll offering. Check partners can make EWA available within their platform, and employers choose whether to offer it to their workforce. When activated, employees can enroll through Clair's embedded experience and receive a portion of their earned wages ahead of their scheduled pay date. The integration connects directly with payroll data already flowing through Check, so the experience is seamless for both employers and employees — no manual reconciliation, no separate funds flow, no disruption to the pay run.
For Check partners, this means less time building and maintaining a standalone EWA solution and more time focused on what makes their product unique.
"Earned wage access is one of the most impactful financial wellness benefits employers can offer today, and the best place to deliver it is through the payroll experience," said Andrew Brown, CEO at Check. "We’re thrilled to offer our partners this capability without having to build it themselves and to give employees access to their earnings when they actually need them."
Why Clair
Unlike standalone EWA apps that operate outside the payroll ecosystem, Clair's model is designed to work directly with payroll infrastructure — making Check a natural partner. Clair is trusted by tens of thousands of businesses and has deep integrations with leading payroll providers across the industry.
"Payroll infrastructure is the foundation that makes truly seamless EWA possible," said Nico Simko, CEO at Clair. "Working with Check means we can reach more employees through the platforms they're already using at work, and ensure that the experience is reliable, accurate, and built on real-time payroll data."
