Today we’re excited to share a new partnership between Check and Human Interest that brings a seamless 401(k) experience to platforms building payroll on Check. With this integration, customers can launch and manage retirement benefits alongside payroll—no uploads, no spreadsheets, and fewer late-night administrative tasks.
Why this matters
Offering retirement savings for employees is increasingly becoming the norm and expectation for employers of all sizes. It can be essential for employers to have an offering to attract and retain talent. A 401(k) is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to build long-term financial security, so it's often considered table stakes for employees. Plus, employers benefit from tax advantages from starting and maintaining a 401(k) plan. And the offerings work best when they’re built into payroll.
401(k) administration lives and dies by payroll data—eligibility tracking, onboarding, contribution changes, deductions, and per-pay-period reporting. When payroll and 401(k) talk to each other, nearly all of that work can be automated, saving time and reducing risk for busy teams. Human Interest’s approach to payroll integration keeps employee roster and payroll details up to date, applies contribution changes automatically, and reduces manual file handling for every run.
Why we love Human Interest
Human Interest is built for partners like Check, with a mature, automation-first approach that removes the friction at every turn. Their approach prioritizes connecting directly to payroll so employee contribution updates flow through without extra steps, and they offer 3(16) fiduciary services to help shoulder day-to-day administrative and compliance tasks for the employer.
Behind the scenes, Human Interest Advisors, a Registered Investment Adviser and subsidiary of Human Interest Inc., provides investment management and advisory services. Human Interest Advisors offers investment advisory services through the selection, construction, and oversight of diversified plan investment menus via a digital platform where fund allocations can be recommended based on employees’ risk profiles. This is intended to help give employees a simple, guided path to saving. Compared to other 401(k) providers, Human Interest Advisors also offers employers a broad range of investment options to build their plan lineup from, helping to balance simplicity with flexibility, so their employees can tailor savings to their needs.
Beyond 401(k), Human Interest has built a suite of products that serve a wide range of businesses and individuals. They support 403(b) plans for nonprofits, Solo(k) plans for the self-employed, and even IRAs—making retirement savings more accessible to diverse segments of the market.
