Filings visibility in Console

We've added a new Tax filings section in Console for each Company, built upon the Tax Filings API released this fall. You can now see upcoming, blocked, and filed tax returns all in one place.

Blocked filings are visible in this new section with an explanation of the issue and the steps needed to resolve it. Blocked filings are informational and do not have consequences on their own. Delayed filing fees only apply if a filing is processed after the due date or requires multiple filing attempts. In some cases, you can resolve blocked filings by opting out of unwanted or zero-dollar filings directly from Console up until quarter-end filing begins. To learn more, visit the Help Center.

Employer copies of tax documents will be linked directly from this section starting next week. As a reminder, Q4 employer copies will be published on January 12th.

Finally, as part of this release, we have also introduced a new “Tax management” organizational area within the Console sidebar. The Tax deposits section is now located within this area, as is the new Tax filings section.

Employee Tax Statement API: Publication + Delivery Fields (and filed_at Deprecation)

We’re updating the Employee Tax Statement API to give partners clearer visibility into statement publication status and physical delivery method.

New fields

  • published_at (nullable timestamp) — When the statement was published to the employee.
  • publication_status (string) — Current statement state: draft (not yet published), pending_correction (publication held while corrections are pending), or published (available to the employee).
  • delivery_method (nullable string) — How a physical copy will be delivered: manual (employer distributes) or mail (mailed by Check).
  • mail_recipient (nullable string) — When delivery_method is mail, indicates who receives the mailed copy: employee or company.

Deprecated fields

  • filed_at is deprecated. Partners should migrate to published_at for statement lifecycle timing going forward.

Bulk Delete Payroll Items

Check has added support for bulk deletion of payroll items, allowing partners to remove multiple payroll items within a single request. This new bulk delete endpoint follows the same patterns as our existing bulk update functionality and enables partners to programmatically clean up or correct large sets of payroll data in a single operation.

Partners can begin using this endpoint immediately. For details on request structure and usage, refer to our updated API documentation for deleting payroll items.

Minnesota PFML Coming Jan 1st, 2026

Minnesota has introduced a new Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program that goes into effect on January 1st, 2026. This program will be funded by a 0.88% payroll tax, which is comprised of both employer and employee contributions.

Like PFML programs in other states, Minnesota employers will be prompted for new setup parameters for Minnesota PFML. These include whether:

  1. They are a “qualified small employer” (and is therefore subject to a lower tax rate)
  2. They have an equivalent private plan that exempts them from the state plan
  3. They wish to “pick up” employee contributions

New tax parameters for Minnesota PFML will be released next week on Friday, December 19th, 2025. At that time, Minnesota employers should expect to have their onboard status move to a blocking status until they provide those necessary setup parameters.
